WHO IS ENFIELD LOAVES AND FISHES?

Enfield Loaves and Fishes is a nonprofit run by civic minded community members that care about Enfield and look

out for their neighbors. We provide a hot meal 7 days a week, free of charge, to anyone that needs one – no

questions asked.

Facing hunger can be stressful. Constantly worrying about where your next meal will come from can cause mental

health problems such as depression, anxiety, and even posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Thoelke & Waite, 3

Devastating Effects of Hunger on the Body, 2021).

WHAT DO WE DO?

During the pandemic, Connecticut’s food insecurity has grown by an estimated 14%, to more than 490,000 people,

including 131,000 children (Connecticut Foodshare, Hunger in Connecticut, 2021).

Enfield Loaves and Fishes provides basic human support and a sense of relief from the hardships of our guests’

everyday lives. Often, the home cooked meal that we provide is the only food our guests can depend on. Our staff

is dedicated to getting the word out in our community that our service is here for anyone who may be

experiencing hunger.

WHAT STEPS DO WE TAKE TO SERVE OUR MISSION?

Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to get the word out throughout our community that our service is here for

anyone that may be experiencing hunger. We have moved to a new location with improved accessibility. Our

facility has a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere which allows our guests to dine in comfort with pride. We work 7

days a week to sort donations, clean our facility, plan menus, serve home cooked meals, and give out treats to

provide sustenance to those in need in our community.

WHAT ELSE DOES ENFIELD LOAVES AND FISHES PROVIDE?

Enfield Loaves and Fishes is constantly searching for ways to support our community and find new opportunities

to reach anyone that is facing food insecurity and could benefit from our services. Our staff is knowledgeable

about other organizations in town and can provide support services and advice. We can refer those in need to

other organizations that can assist in specific areas such as housing, addiction, and mental health. Our

organization is a community that provides companionship, acceptance, and inclusion to our guests and generous

volunteers. Our family style approach to addressing need fosters trust, belonging, and respect in our

neighborhood.
